Shipping Policy for packages going to our Customers in Hawaii |

We can use either parcel post or priority mail for
shipping orders into Hawaii. It is your choice of these two methods. We do not use the private carriers such
as Fed Ex and UPS due to their high cost. We charge our customers exactly what the postal service charges us
for these shipments. Here is our shipping procedure for these orders:
1. Customer places order on internet and the order will complete showing the continental states shipping rates, which is
inaccurate for Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.
2. We will email or call you with an approximate shipping cost, which we base on the www.usps.com pricing for boxes paid for
through that web site, which is a bit cheaper then if paid for over the counter at the post office. At your request we can make
this estimate a range of lowest and highest expected cost, where we will call you prior to shipping if the actual cost is outside
of that range.
3. When the order is ready to ship and after we are assured that the customer understands our shipping policy we will send the
order and charge for the product and the shipping. Customers are welcome to email (preferred over calling or faxing at this time,
to better help us manage this) us at the time of their order if they would like to assure us at the time of the order that they
understand our shipping policy.
Things to consider for the cost of this shipping:
We ship most orders from Los Angeles, California.
We do overpack our dinnerware in large shipping boxes to allow space for
foam packing peanuts and paper. This is because we need to compensate for potential poor handling of your order.
This often adds to shipping cost due to larger box size, as charges for such things as
"non-machinable handling" and what the postal service is now calling "balloon parcel post", whatever that may be. We suspect this
is meant to be an extra charge for large boxes that do not weight as much as the postal service may expect of a box that size.
Typical of
a 15.5 pound box send via parcel post to Hawaii in December 2008 is a charge for $21.03, a charge for $3.70 for non-machinable parcel post,
and a charge for "Balloon Parcel Post" of $3.01. This is a total of approx $28 on 15 pounds, or nearly $2 per pound.
This same package was quoted as over $50 for priority mail.
