Melamine Dinnerware continues to grow in popularity. Back in the 50's it was called "Melmac" and was offered in very drab shades of yellow, brown, green, and red. Not to mention that they were all made very thin. A lot has changed since then, colors have improved and so have printing techniques. This allowed Melamine to have an attractive shine in many vibrant colors and designs.
Importantly, the pieces are made much thicker these days then they were in yester-year. Because of that they are hard to differentiate from porcelain or stoneware by simply looking them over. The surprise comes when these pieces are handled, and the lighter weight is noticed.
The fact that they are dishwasher safe, and not very easy to break is giving melamine dishes a renewed life. |
